8570.1 Directive Mandates that All Personnel Involved in Information Assurance

Government agencies deal in information and are under constant threat of security intrusions. Thanks to the 2004 Department of Defense Directive 8570.1, information is being better secured against the rising tide of security breaches. This 8570.1 directive mandates that all personnel involved in Information Assurance (including managers and technicians) receive directive 8570.1 training and become certified by the appropriate organization according to their identified level.

The directive requires certification training and validation of the skills needed for securing and protecting information, information systems, and information infrastructures. Each Information Assurance level has specific certifications required under the directive:
