A+ Certification is a Requirement for DoD 8570.1 Directive

The Department of Defense (DoD) 8570.1 directive, which was officially signed and put into action in 2004, requires all personnel under the categories of military, defense contractors and all employees, civilian and foreign, with access to a Department of Defense system must obtain and possess a nationally recognized commercial credential adhering to The American National Standards Institute, also known as ANSI. It further states that all personnel under the above workforce categories must be certified by the end of the year 2010.

On a technical level, the A+ certification, the Network+ certification and the Security+ certification are accepted criteria all individuals under this purview must possess. On the management level, the Security+ certification is a requirement. On a further level, any corporation desiring to bid on, or perform business with Department of Defense information technology, their personnel must be 8570.1 compliant. Also, the directive insures the certification is recognized within the private and public sectors, and is a global standard, making the certification extremely portable.
