Cisco Systems Inc, known as the premier source and supplier of networking hardware, is venturing forth in its hardware server market, pushing the envelope towards virtualization. As part of Cisco's Unified Computing System, the networking giant is seeking to revitalize the current 'status quo' methods of data centers operation. Through the use of more memory, faster data transportation and newer management functionality, Cisco has visions of blazing the path of virtualization in hopes of spurring other leading companies to embrace the up and coming technology. With partnership deals involving industry heavy hitters such as Microsoft, Red Hat, VMware, Novell, NetApp, Accenture, BMC, and EMC, Cisco seeks to address the challenge of memory resources and data access speed, as well as the overall management of the virtual environment.
As Cisco works toward the additional goal of virtualization flexibility and scalability, other advantages including a reduction of cooling power, physical space and the power to operate the data center will become a viable reality. Multiple operating systems and applications running on a single server will prove to be a windfall, as the popularity and proven benefits of virtualization take hold.
Even with the current economic conditions, virtualization will prove a quick return on investment is possible. Cisco's unified computing system and strategy makes it a perfect fit for healthcare providers, very large manufacturing enterprises and data hosting entities, industries that lean strongly on a market that invests a great deal of finances in software and servers.
Riding on the benefits of energy savings, load balancing, lower CPU capacities, increased business agility, the ease of management and administration, added value and plenty of room for integration, Cisco is on the right track to confront the server world head-on and usher in the next standard of information storage and deliver solutions.
