CompTIA Revamps Their Certification Policy

A new CompTIA renewal policy, addressing the feedback of its customers, was instituted during the beginning of January, 2010.
Todd Thibodeaux, the President and CEO of CompTIA, announced the vendor-neutral IT certifications provider will no longer require a recertification exam for current holders of the following disciplines: CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+ or CompTIA Security+. Irrespective of when professionals of the three classifications earned their certifications, once earned, the holders are certified for life. Mr. Thibodeaux also announced the CompTIA renewal policy includes additional provisions. As of January 1, 2011, all new, issued CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+ or CompTIA Security+ certifications will remain valid for a total of three years from the actual date of certification. The certification will then require renewal after the three year period. Professionals and candidates may continue their certification by successfully passing the most up-to-date exam for their certification, or they may take part in the forthcoming new continuing educational curriculum of CompTIA. This ongoing program will allow technicians and professionals to retain their proficiencies current as well as keep their certifications up to date without the need to re-test.
As CompTIA strives to continue developing cutting edge requirements to preserve their ISO 17024 accreditation, the CompTIA renewal policy still maintains the global credibility it has always held. ISO 17024 basically states a clear definition of the competencies to be tested, the skill set and knowledge attributes of the exam, and the test remains independent and a very valid, effective examination of core competence.
