Have Personal Computers Approached End Of Life

Each year, newer, better and faster hardware reaches the corporate and end user stream. Notebooks, tablets, smartphones, eBooks and other related devices are on the rise and gaining employment as a primary medium of integrating the end user with the desired information. As corporations recognize the value of simplicity and extra productivity in telecommuting employees, after hours or weekend remote access, and frequent work related duties that places staff into the field at a moment's notice, the advanced hardware technology affects present and future PC distributions and the direction of financial spending. Mobile and physical portability beats an immovable, unwieldy system any way you view it.

Several factors are driving the direction of the newer devices and leaner, functionality packed hardware. The proliferation and movement towards cloud services and virtualization will change the way data is disseminated and delivered. Hardware connecting to these services will handle connectivity and the end user features, while the major processing power and data will be relocated to the central cloud system. Another area that will satisfy the financial division of companies will be the decreased spending on the sleeker, leaner devices. Users will employ their own personal choice of hardware suiting their needs, or a combined negotiated corporate buying plan will affect the change, which provides the participating company less inventory to depreciate and hold as a physical item.

Where some employers may have fears of various hardware devices and connectivity issues running rampant, not to mention concerns of security and support, requirements and utilization of specific devices will have to be set beforehand. Measures and standards of security will have to be enforced, including the closure of any security gaps and lapses. Training in this area should be a requirement, clearing the air and answering any and all questions that may arise.

As the movement towards a smaller, trimmer office environment takes shape, PCs and other redundant equipment may become supplemented, replaced or adjusted to a backup role. Why would a company continue to outlay the finances for several pieces of hardware when its services are integrated into a smaller, quicker, updated system with physical movability? Especially when employees are out of the office, on the go, and performing up to task. Remember, companies love a reduction in spending.

As employees begin and migrate towards connected devices with less of a reliance on stationary PCs, a trend will take place, eliminating the current desktop system as we know it. Companies that anticipate this shift now will have a happier staff, an IT department ready for the change, a financial plan that will correctly forecast priorities and necessary spending, and an overall preparedness that will smooth the path.
