Some of the enhancements expected in SharePoint 2010 include a greater flexibility in the methods teams utilize in performing their given tasks, increased customized workflows, new API's, a reduced developmental workload as SharePoint integrates smoothly with Visual Studio, a greater number of tools such as wikis, blogs, sites, profiles, content libraries and more. Co-authorizing and synchronization with Outlook and the calendar functions is expected to receive functionality, as well as management policies, security settings, configuration options, and department to enterprise compliance rules and administration.

The search platform of SharePoint 2010 is expected to be expanded, with custom search tools and applications. The ability to drill down in searches and navigation queries to narrow the result set, user profile context searches, behavior relevance searches that assign higher search rankings to often uses queries, thumbnail previews and improved search results and sorting capabilities are new. Expertise searches, conducting searches from the Windows desktop and mobile platform, search connectors, search scales across the entire enterprise or specialized within a department and search extensibility has been heightened.

The support for business intelligence and business connectivity services provides robust services from other integrated solutions such as Excel, SharePoint, Visio, PerformancePoint, Web parts charting, Key Performance Indicators and more. Teams have a greater influence over working in methods that are effective and productive to their style of performance.

End users have the flexibility to create workflows and collaborative solutions and business needs without the use of code right from their browser. Other no-code tools at the disposal of the user include Office Access, Visio, SharePoint Designer, Office InfoPath and more. IT administrators have control over user resources using throttling controls to prevent server resource consumption, preserving platform stability.

Software developers now have the new SharePoint Designer 2010, new SDK documentation and a rich set of features and resources such as the developer dashboard page, Silverlight hosting, client object models, data relationships, and application scalability.

Overall, SharePoint 2010 will deliver a range of features and solution characteristics that will expand the usability and customization to fit the specific business requirements of all consumers.
