New Windows 7 Interface A Welcomed Change

The launch of Windows Vista did not pass without its share of problems and issues. The mounting incompabilities between Vista and the software applications stemmed from the shift in the newly implemented core system architecture. This radical change was a needed change in the aging, bloated structure, but also surprised the then current software applications and hardware drivers designed for the old architecture.

Windows 7 improves on the underlying Vista code and brings with it increased stability and new features supporting the change. An enhanced layer of security, better memory management, improved device management, a 'greener' use of consumed power, enriched indexing, advanced performance tools, remote media streaming, libraries, the system restore feature, as well as a graphic interface designed to enhance the productivity of the user.

The first major interface change users may notice is the taskbar. Huge movable icons within the taskbar aid the user in rearranging the icons to their personal preference. Moving the mouse cursor over an icon and hovering reveals a popup of the open, available thumbnails within the application. Clicking on the thumbnail opens that particular window.

Jump Lists exist, simply by right-clicking the taskbar icon. Jump lists present the user with a quick access to the most recent actions, files or application features. Users can also enter custom features into a jump list, such as application actions (media playback features) or drag and drop a document to another application.

Window organization has improved, as users may reduce or restore a window by dragging the window to a different location. Grabbing an enlarged window and dragging it away from the top of the screen reduces the size. Moving the window back to the top of the screen maximizes the window. Drag a window to the left or right reduces the size of the window, allowing a pair of windows to be viewed simultaneously for content comparison.

Windows Peek allows quick access to the desktop or underlying windows. Move the mouse cursor to the right most corner of the taskbar, and all windows immediately become transparent, revealing the desktop, hidden windows and gadgets. Hovering over a window's thumbnail instantly brings that window to the forefront. As a side note, gadgets used to live on the sidebar in Vista . Now they reside on the desktop itself. The system tray, long a bane of wasted real estate, useless icons and announcements, now hide the icons unless they are desired by the user.

Libraries are an entirely new feature to Windows. Libraries organize the contents of files and multimedia content without overwhelming the user of the underlying file system itself. Documents of varying types, pictures, music and videos are categorized and neatly displayed, relieving the user of searching for the content when desired, as well as providing a much needed form of visual housekeeping.

In order to absorb the many changes to Microsoft's latest operating system incarnation, a class in Windows 7 training eases the transition, increasing productivity and relieving the stress related to learning a new system or application. Using a method of e-learning, gaining a new technology becomes a very easy and simple process. With the advent of Microsoft Office 2010 on the horizon and other software solutions such as SharePoint and Exchange Server 2010, a Microsoft training course answers all of your questions and prepares you for the road ahead.
