Salary Report Reveals IT Job Satisfaction Factors

From competitive salaries and skill building opportunities such as e-learning to job security and a work-life balance, the 2011 IT Skills and Salary Report reveals job satisfaction factors specific to the IT industry. Over 12,000 IT professionals around the globe took part in the survey.

What satisfied IT professionals the most? If you guessed a competitive salary, you're correct! Over 85 percent listed a competitive salary as the most important influence on job satisfaction. Closely following salary, just over 80 percent of respondents listed respect for the work performed. Coming in at third place, the ability to increase skill sets closely followed by work-life balance. Tied at fifth place were comprehensive benefits and job security.

Other factors affecting job security included:

• New responsibilities
• Communication with superiors
• Communication with peers
• Opportunities for promotion
• Opportunities for bonuses

These results demonstrate that not only is a competitive salary important to IT professionals around the world, so are respect, communication, IT certification training, open lines of communication, and opportunities for advancement. Companies wanting to attract and keep the best IT employees are wise to blend both financial and motivational incentives. Attractive salaries, appreciative managers, corporate online computer training, advancement opportunities, and open lines of communication are vital in today's technology environment.
